A long-term PAQ mission to connect one million adoptions with pollination, rural livelihoods, biodiversity and measurable field intelligence.
Ten lakh adoptions is a scale large enough to change how India sees beekeeping: from a honey activity to essential rural infrastructure.
This is a long-term mission, not a claim of present scale. It is a direction for building a distributed network of bee colonies, farmers, trained beekeepers, adopters, institutions and technology across diverse landscapes.
Why think at this scale?
A single colony can support one flowering area. A cluster can support multiple farms and create regular work for a beekeeper. Thousands of well-managed clusters can strengthen pollination access across crop belts. At national scale, adoption can become a citizen and institutional pathway for investing in food security, biodiversity and resilient livelihoods.
The goal is not to place colonies without a plan. Every adoption must be connected to suitable forage, responsible colony management, farmer consent, seasonal movement and local carrying capacity. Scale without ecology would weaken the mission. Scale with discipline can build a valuable biological network.
What the mission must build
Reaching ten lakh adoptions requires more than hive boxes. It requires nurseries and colony multiplication, trained beekeeper networks, local service centres, migration routes, queen and disease management, crop calendars, quality systems, digital records, farmer partnerships and reliable demand for hive products.
It also requires multiple bee strategies. Managed Apis mellifera may serve large pollination clusters, Apis cerana can strengthen regionally adapted hill and mixed-farming systems, and stingless bees can support suitable urban and tropical microhabitats.
A national participation model
Individuals can adopt. Companies can create employee-backed clusters. Schools can build learning sites. Hotels and institutions can connect adoption with responsible sourcing. Governments and foundations can support district-scale livelihood programmes.
The number matters because the challenge is large. The method matters because every colony is alive. Mission 10 Lakh Adoptions is PAQ’s commitment to pursue both ambition and responsibility together.
